The Registrar General’s Department with her sisters’ agencies celebrated 10 years since all four agencies were transformed under the Public Sector Modernization Programme (PSMP). The service was held at the St. Andrew Parish Church on May 31, 2009, to mark their achievements.

Since April 1, 1999 all four agencies were given the mandate to provide efficient, effective and economic service to the public. The PSMP was implemented within all four agencies to present a new organization format in the Jamaican Public Sector, and to make core Ministries more policy driven.
The RGD since then has developed over the years a number of programs to achieve the government’s development plans. The Agency introduced in its first year under the PSMP Key Performance Indicators. The Key Performance Indicators are used to measure how well we are doing as an Agency. For the 2008/09 financial year the Agency has a total of 99 KPIs.

Worthy of note was the introduction of courier service to deliver certificates to our customers in 2004. Additionally, our premium services were offered on the Next Day and Seven Day service. Other initiatives included the information booths posted at the entrance of the head office Twickenham Park as well as the launching of the RGD website in 2006. The website gave customers an alternative whether to apply online or in office. Soon after the RGD launched its online payment facility, allowing its customer to make payments via their credit cards.

Another Initiative implemented by the RGD since April 1, 2007 was the Bedside Registration. This thrust is reporting a 100% success rate and in addition as reported that over 50% of the nation fathers have provided information at birthing centre around the island.

On May 20, 2009 at the Public Sector Customer Service Competition, RGD along with PICA, MIND, and Administrator General's Department and other entities was recognized for showing dramatic improvements.

Cabinet Secretary, Ambassador Douglas Saunders, stated in his speech that the Executive Agencies have changed the face of service delivery by public sector bodies and have certainly provided significant benefits to Jamaicans.
