Tax payer registration number is a unique nine digit number that is issued to the individual taxpayer, companies , businesses , charities and partnerships. Persons from outside of Jamaica seeking to conduct trade must have a TRN. Every Jamaican applying for a TRN must present a birth certificate.
In the event the individual conducts a deedpoll they must present a copy of their birth certificate along with their deedpoll to the tax administration department. The birth certificate is important as it provides evidence to the proof of name.
Additionally, there are some unique information presented on the birth certificate that is taken into account that prevents the issuing of same TRN to person with a similar or exact name.
If an error in the name is made on the TRN it can only corrected with the birth certificate. This means persons will have to visit the RGD to obtain a copy of their birth certificate to correct the document
Married persons must present a copy of their marriage certificate when they apply for their TRN.
