The agency conducts Overseas Outreaches as part of its Public Education Campaign and also to reach its Diaspora who are not able to access its services through the mail or the internet. These outreaches are usually conducted in North America and the United Kingdom. For the first time since the introduction of the overseas outreaches, the agency ventured to the Caribbean for the first time to the Grand Cayman Islands on June 16th – 18th, 2009.
The team of Dr. Patricia Holness, CEO and Deputy Keeper of the Records, Mrs. Yvette Scott, Deputy CEO and Mrs. Cecile Banton, Regional Manager, Southern Regional Office was hosted by the Honorary Vice-Consul to Jamaica Mrs. Elaine Harris. Further hospitality was extended by the St. George’s Anglican Church Hall who hosted the team for the outreach for the three day period.
The Cayman Islands has reported the second successful outreach, collecting a total of One Hundred and Twelve (112) applications. The Honorary Vice-Consul to Jamaica Mrs. Elaine Harris stated that there has always been a need for the Registrar General’s Department to visit the islands as this was in the works for sometime, she said that this is the first time this opportunity has been made available to Jamaicans living in Cayman and she was happy to finally have it arranged. Approximately forty-four (44%) of Foreign Workers in the Cayman Islands are Jamaicans. The agency intends to include the Cayman Islands as part of its annual overseas outreaches in the future.
