Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Keeper of the Records of the Registrar General’s Department, Dr. Patricia Holness gave the main address at the weekly luncheon meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Kingston at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
The keynote was on”Innovation” in the public sector as a way of ensuring accountability.
According to the Jamaica Information Service, (JIS) dated February 4, 2009 Dr. Patricia Holness told the gathering that innovation means changing the way things are done. She also mentioned some critical changes in the operation of the RGD that is making an impact on the way things are done. These include:
1 Greater use of technology, which include online applications, Voice over Internet Protocol,(VOIP) technology and online banking.
2 Hotel Interface for Marriage Application programme for resort operation to complete and monitor the processing of marriage applications.
Due to these changes the RGD now boast a 98 percent satisfaction rate for the services it provide including the provision of birth, marriage and death certificates, genealogical research and bedside registration of all infants born at Hospital in Jamaica since January 1, 2007.
