RGD’s Role in obtaining a Jamaican Passport
- A passport is an essential document that is used for purpose of travel it allows citizens from one country to enjoy some fundamental rights while in another country.
- In Jamaica one of the requirements in securing a passport is the birth certificate. This as the birth certificate gives proof of age, nationality and the spelling of names.
- In the instances where persons are married they must submit the marriage certificate from the RGD to substantiate the name change in their passports.
- The birth and marriage certificate is also needed to renew the passports In the case of applying for a passport of a minor under 16 the parents name must appear on the child’s certificate.
- In the case of a father whose particulars is absent from his child’s certificate he must add his name at the RGD before he can apply.
- In obtaining a passport from another country one must present their birth certificate along with their naturalization certificate.
