- At the 31st of December 1962, the island of Jamaica was divided into 354 separate districts, each in charge of a Registrar, for the purpose of effecting the registration of births and deaths as they occur. In 217 of these districts the Registrar of Births and Deaths was also the Postmistress in charge of the local Post Office and 46 Postal Agents
- There were in the island at the 31st December, 1962, 650 duly appointed Marriage Officers (representing over 106 different religious denominations operating in this Colony) and 14 Civil Registrars of Marriages

- Of the 66,948 registrations of births, 2,035 had occurred before 1962 and only 64,913 during the year itself.
- During the year 47,586 searches were made in the Registers of Births, Deaths and Marriages and in the Civil Status Records of Marriages, Baptisms and Burials prior to 1880;
